Salmiah Rahman started as a freelance Malay
translator specializing in English to Malay translations in 1984 after resigning from Berita Harian. Salmiah Razman
Communications was formed in 1998 after Mohd Razman Abdullah resigned from NST and Razali Razman graduated from
University of Malaya at around the same time.
Noreen Kong, who has a Sports Science
degree from UM and Diploma in Translations form Dewan Bahasa, joined us in 2001 after stints with event
management companies.
We changed our name to Razz Publications after Mohd Razman Abdullah
passed away in 2009.
We have done various types of Malay translations
including press releases, legal contracts, insurance documents, annual reports, advertising copies, books, manuals,
articles and medical documents. Some of our clients have been with us for more than 20 years, such as Eric Pringle
Associates and TQPR and some more than 10 years, including Ogilvy PR.
Among the major jobs we have completed include a book on
Nobel Prize winners for the National Science Centre, insurance contracts for MAA and P&O Insurance,
Tourism Malaysia’s magazine, website for International Office for Migration (IOM), website for Tune
Money, banking documents for HSBC Amanah and OCBC and the DBKL website.
Our bread and butter actually comes from the daily
press release, advertorial and article translations that we do for PR and advertising companies. We have a fast
turnaround time and on occasions we deliver within one or two hours when our clients really need the work urgently,
especially in crisis management cases.
Apart from that, we also do various business and
financial translations, including annual reports, result announcements, fund performance reports etc. Among
the more recent jobs include fund performance reports for MAAKL Mutual and UniAsia Life Assurance, annual
reports for SOCSO, Gamuda, UniAsia, MAS, TDM, LonPac and BIMB Berhad.
In technology, we have done Malay articles for
Microsoft (via PR Agencies), Intel, Philips and Alcatel. Meanwhile, in the medical field we work directly for
Sanofi Aventis and Bayer Healthcare as well as many others through our clients' medical practice (Baxter
Healthcare, Merck and GSK).
In the banking sector, we translate documents
for Bank Islam, OCBC, HSBC Amanah, UOB and RHB and also some other banks through our agency
clients. We also do legal
translations including Malay terms and conditions for contests and banking agreements.
Other than English to Malay work, Razali Razman
also does Malay to English translations, mainly Malay press clippings on multinational companies and government
communications and directives that need to be understood by English speaking senior executives of
corporations.
